Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s set the record straight. Republicans are lobbing attacks at Deb that are FALSE. Here are the facts:
Deb Voted Against The Republican Budget Because:
The Republican budget cut clean energy investments and programs aimed at reducing air and water pollution.
The Republican budget slashed healthcare support for elderly, blind and disabled Washingtonians.
The Republican budget would have led to even more vacancies in the Department of Corrections and juvenile rehabilitation facilities.
Republicans are claiming that Deb is “making it easier for politicians to raise taxes”:
Right now, it’s too hard for local communities in Washington to build or upgrade school buildings. That’s because we’re one of only seven states that still require a 60% supermajority to pass school bonds. This high bar makes it difficult to invest in safe, modern schools.
A new bill would fix that by lowering the threshold to a simple majority, 50% + 1. That change would still give communities full control over local decisions, but it would make it easier to reduce overcrowding, improve safety, and strengthen our schools.
Letting communities decide how to spend their own tax dollars means they can invest in schools that meet their local needs and values. Strong schools help build strong communities and this bill gives local voters the tools to plan for a better future.
Republicans claim that Deb “allowed for billions in new taxes and the largest tax increase in Washington history.” That is FALSE. Here is what really happened:
Deb voted AGAINST the Democratic budget tax increases because they asked too much of working families and
She voted against property, gas, and small-business tax increases.
Republicans are framing Deb’s appointment negatively. Here is what really happened:
When Emily Randall was elected to Congress, her Senate seat was vacant. According to Washington state law, the counties where the seat is vacated “elect” an interim State Senator to hold the seat.
Now, there is a Special Election being held to elect the State Senator to represent this district.
